Cheese Pizza Monkey Bread

Life is hectic right now.  It really is.  I mean last week I had absolutely no time to blog and I felt like I was dying inside.  I visited my fellow food blogs and spent time on other friends posts, commenting and what not… but actual blogging I had none.  I don’t know what happened the week was just a mess.  Before I knew it it was Friday and I had done nothing in regards to my blog and my family and I hadn’t really spent anytime together.  That’s why I knew when Friday came a long I checked our schedule and saw that we had NOTHING scheduled, which for us that is really a miracle.  I took that upon myself to call this past Friday, Family Movie Night and you know what it was GREAT!  I got in the kitchen and started throwing some yummy hand food together, with of course my little helper, and we chose a movie that we could all watch… we decided on The Lorax.  A super cute family friendly movie… 🙂

When I told my kids what we were having they were super excited and couldn’t wait to try this Cheese Pizza Monkey Bread.  Now we are a family that loves their pizza, and if I can sometimes switch it up and make something different but still incorporate our favorite thing then I have truly hit a home run.

Let me just say that these babies were a HIT!  It’s a great way to turn a dish that is usually sweet into something savory and delicious!

Did you do anything fun and exciting this weekend?

Hope you enjoy!

This is really one of the easiest things you can have your helper help you with.  I had KK slice the mozzarella sticks in cubes… now the only thing I recommend is that you watch them because if they are anything like her you may start missing a few cubes and find someone eating them all… 🙂

Tear off or slice pieces of the pizza dough in small large marbles.  Roll and then flatten with the palm of your hand.  Place a chopped cube of mozzarella in the center and then close up the dough around the cheese and pinch the ends together.

Place all of the rolled dough balls in your greased bundt pan and brush the melted butter mixture all over your dough balls. 🙂

KK and I stood by the oven watching the dough rise as it cooked and when we opened the oven let’s just say it smelled so good!  We wanted to dive in before the boys got a chance.

Serve with warm marinara or pizza sauce.

Cheese Pizza Monkey Bread

  • Total Time: 1 hour 45 minutes
  • Yield: 48 pieces 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs Pizza Dough, (either store bought or homemade is good)
  • 6 oz Mozzarella Cheese or Mozzarella Cheese Sticks, cut into small cubes (this will give you around 48 small pieces)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) Butter, melted and unsalted
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon Parmesan Cheese, grated
  • 23 cups Marinara or Pizza Sauce, warmed (I used homemade pizza sauce)

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a small bowl in the microwave for 30 seconds or more. Add Italian seasoning and Parmesan cheese.
  2. Lightly brush the inside of a bundt pan (or other oven-safe dish) with melted butter.
  3. This is the perfect time to have your little kitchen helper help you cut the mozzarella cheese in small cubes.
  4. Cut off large marble-sized balls of dough and flatten around 2/3 of an ounce if you want to be precise. Top with a cube of mozzarella.
  5. Wrap the dough around the cheese, pinching well to seal. Then place inside greased bundt pan and after each layer brush with more of the melted butter mix.
  6. Repeat until all of the dough is used. Cover and let sit for 30 minutes, while preheating the oven to 400. Bake for 35 minutes, or until the top is very brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and let sit for 10 minutes. Turn out onto a platter and serve with warmed marinara sauce for dipping.
